Our Mission

ARF's primary mission is to rescue animals from city animal kill shelters. For more than 20 years we have been caring for homeless pets and finding them new homes. We are non-profit, relying completely on public funding. The majority of our money is spent on veterinary bills. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, given a physical, and tattooed (except for kittens) for identification. We are foster-home based to give our rescued animals a loving environment until we can find them a forever home.

We need and appreciate your generous donations. We also accept donations of materials such as dog and cat food, animal bedding, collars, leashes, food bowls, dog and cat toys, and animal treats. All donations are tax deductible!

Foster Home Information

While adopting a homeless dog or cat saves a life, FOSTERING saves MANY lives! ARF is always looking for additional foster families who will open their homes and hearts to an animal in need, and provide love and care to the dog or cat until they are adopted. ARF will provide food and medical care for the animal while in the foster home. All we ask is that the foster animal be shown at least once a month at either the Friday (71st Street) or Saturday (41st Street) PetSmart booth locations.

If you are interested in becoming a Foster Home, please print this Foster Home Form and fax it into ARF.

THE MEANING OF RESCUE

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed, all nicely tucked in my warm new bed. I'd like to open my baggage, lest I forget, there is so much to carry - so much to regret. Hmmm...Yes, there it is, right on the top; let's unpack loneliness, heartache and loss. And there by my perch hides fear and shame. As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave - I still have to unpack my baggage called pain. I loved them, the others, the ones who left me, but I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me. Will you add to my baggage? Will you help me unpack? Or will you just look at my things - and take me right back. Do you have the time to help me unpack? To help put away my baggage, to never repack? I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see, but I do come with baggage - Will you still want me?
